About Me

Personal

I enjoy the simple country life with my wife and children in rural, western Wisconsin. My passions include hunting, fishing, and generally living off the land as much as possible. I also enjoy running ultramarathons, building and crafting different things, and cooking (though my culinary skills are basically limited to meat).

At home, we have 3 dogs and a flock of chickens. My wife and I homeschool our kids which allows us to spend extra time with them, much of which involves spending time in nature while hunting, fishing, farming, and learning more about God's amazing creation.

I was inspired to work in mental health from my experiences with being in therapy. Going to therapy has made a tremendous difference in my life, both as a child and as an adult. My goal is to provide others with support, insight, and laughter while we collaborate on navigating hardship, developing insight, and finding meaning and purpose. I believe that mental health, like physical health, requires a holistic, all-encompassing approach. Spirituality, relationships, hobbies, exercise, and finding meaning can all be important components to address in working toward better mental health.

Professional Background

I am a Licensed Psychologist who provides therapy and psychological assessment/testing. In therapy, I use a variety of techniques that I tailor to the client and the issue being treated. However, research shows that the quality of the therapeutic relationship, not the technique used, has more to do with successful outcomes. This is why I prioritize establishing and maintaining a healthy connection and trust. I treat a variety of issues, including trauma, OCD, anxiety, and depression.  Regardless of the issue, I try to help clients find more meaning and connection in their life. I am especially passionate about treating veterans, first responders, and their families.

I began my professional journey by earning a master’s degree in clinical psychology from Argosy University-Twin Cities. I practiced as a Licensed Professional Counselor for several years before deciding to return to graduate school in pursuit of a doctoral degree, a prerequisite to becoming a Licensed Psychologist. My primary motivation for this decision was that I developed a passion for psychological testing and assessment. To be able to provide this much-needed service to our community, I needed to become a Licensed Psychologist.

Earning a doctoral degree meant 5 more years of intense, graduate-level education. There are quicker and easier paths to obtaining doctoral degrees, but I wanted to ensure I received the highest standard of training and education available. Therefore, I enrolled in the Minnesota School of Professional Psychology, a rigorous program that was accredited l by the American Psychological Association (APA).  Sadly, 4 years into the program, with all my classes completed and only my internship left, the school abruptly closed. Fortunately, The Chicago School of Professional Psychology accepted me, and I was able to transfer all my coursework and complete my doctorate on schedule.  During my doctoral education, I completed practicum training at the University of MN Department of Pediatric Neuropsychology, Washburn Center for Children, and Aurora Psychological Services. I completed my internship with The Hazelden Betty Ford Foundation. In addition, my dissertation research study was included as a poster presentation at the 6th International Conference on Concussion in Sport.

Following the completion of my doctorate in 2020, I joined a practice in New Richmond, WI, where I provided psychotherapy and psychological testing. In 2023, I decided to open my practice, and here I am today!
